Hello Sunday...

I've been wanting to start testing out the video setting on my new camera as I may be shooting a video as part of my new assignment, I didn't have much planned for today so when I woke up... This happened.

Rain Rain go away!

I finally worked myself to the point where I could spare an evening to go out and shoot but no, it had to pour down all night didn't it. Instead I took these from the shelter of my house.

Principles and practices

This was the first assignment we started at Uni and it covers a wide range of shooting scenarios both on location and in the studio, it has been an amazing experience to use the studios and shoot large format and medium format. The large format transparency film especially blew me away with the quality of the negative, here are some of the shots I have done of my class mates.

Cindy.

Separation of light Shot on 5x4 colour transparency.

Declan.

Low key lighting shot on Hasselblad 501cm.

Surrealism

I recently submitted this image for my surrealism project. We had to make a composite image and the theory behind my work was to take the term "putting your face on" and create a surreal image for it. I found the assignment challenging but interesting and I am pleased with how my image looks, I just have to wait and see what grade I get in a couple of weeks...

Supakitch & Koralie Art

A friend sent me this and I thought it was brilliant, the artists are amazing but I really like the way the video has been shot. It's definitely inspired me to start making some videos.

Adam Hinton came to my University as a guest speaker and his talk was inspiring, not only the quality of his work but the quantity was unbelievable. He spoke of how he seized every opportunity and was always willing to do whatever it takes to get the shot, this showed in the diversity of the work on his website. The most valuable aspect of his presentation for me was when he spoke of the industries demand for moving image now and how this was a skill that the modern photographer must have, the films Adam has on his site show how he has transferred his editorial approach to photography into film and one that stood out for me was the "New Gaza Film".

Below is an image Adam shot in Shanghai and when speaking he described his approach to observational work and he said things such as "How us as people become subjects" and that "We understand how we fit into our society".

I found this series of images when I was researching for a surrealism project, it wasn't really relevant but I had to take a look. The series is titled "Leche" and it shows women being covered in milk and it is shown as though they are literally wearing it, the way the images have been put together is so effective and has made the images seductive and glamourous.

The core of man's spirit comes from new experiences

Into The Wild, The true story of Christopher McCandless.
I shared this film with my housemates as they hadn't seen it before, watching it again reminded me how the story is told in such an amazing way. The story follows the final chapter of his journey whilst frequently looking back in time to show the story of how he got there, his mission was to set himself free from society and head to alaska to live in the wild.
It is an inspirational story about his life and how he changed the lives of the people he met along the way.
